Der Plan

This is the blog of our travels with s/y Barracuda.

The trip started in August 2010 from Harlingen in the Netherlands as a young man's adventure by Jan-Vincent Nickl and Laszlo Schöffer, both born of the year '89 (also the owners of 'Barracuda').

After crossing the Atlantic Ocean and cruising the Eastern Caribbean islands for a while, Jan left the boat and Oliver Clasper, a young artist and photographer (born of '88) from London joined in. We plan for this year to cross the South Pacific.

The boat is a dutch-built sloop, ten metres long, year of construction 1975. She's a Cumulant 3 to be more precise, designed by 'Van-der-Vlis'.

Most of the photos will be posted on Olly's blog, check it out:

I´ve seen the last pictures at the "refit" of your ship. Now, Xx000 nm later, what a trip. You meet a lot of places looks like the paradise (at the pictures)and meet a lot of interesting different peoples. I think it is a adventure and social trip, I like it. I hope you´re well and the ship too. What will you do at next? I´ve seen beatiful pictures from Henrik and Christin from Bora Bora at 28ft.com.

  3. Hey Volkmar,
good to hear from you once again! So we've still got some readers other than our worried parents - although my dad once told me he wasn't worrying about me ever again after the first crossing.
The trip has been amazing indeed, Tanna where we are at the moment being a very highlight of it. And as you say we meet heaps of different people all the time with interesting insights into different cultures and ways - that's why we do it.
But this trip is coming to and end, we'll take it to New caledonia from here and then to Brisbane in Australia, where I'll leave the boat, future of it uncertain.
Money has to be earned and a life on land with girlfriend calls. Who knows what's going to happen...
So long, Volkmar, I'm looking forward to tell you lots more stories over a beer one day!
    Laszlo

  4. Hallo Lazlo,
everytime the same problem: shit money! Where will you stop your trip in "Neu-Schottland", Nouméa? If you are in Nouméa make some steps for me at the Anse Vata Bay and have a visit to the Mont Dore.
When will you meet Henrik and Christin again?
I think in Brisbane you must refit your boat again?
Lazlo, the last sentence (16.10.) > I think we will need a box of beer, not only a bottle :o)). I waite of this "one day".
