Der Plan

This is the blog of our travels with s/y Barracuda.

The trip started in August 2010 from Harlingen in the Netherlands as a young man's adventure by Jan-Vincent Nickl and Laszlo Schöffer, both born of the year '89 (also the owners of 'Barracuda').

After crossing the Atlantic Ocean and cruising the Eastern Caribbean islands for a while, Jan left the boat and Oliver Clasper, a young artist and photographer (born of '88) from London joined in. We plan for this year to cross the South Pacific.

The boat is a dutch-built sloop, ten metres long, year of construction 1975. She's a Cumulant 3 to be more precise, designed by 'Van-der-Vlis'.

Most of the photos will be posted on Olly's blog, check it out:

st vincent and the grenadines, st lucia

hello there, people we're still alive!

the last two weeks we were travelling together with our good friends who came to the caribbean for christmas and and new year's eve.

we visited a lot of our favourite places we knew from our school-trips and had a real good time together.

chrismas eve we spent at bequia and we made a great party of it, and you can say the same thing about new year's eve which we spent at basil's bar on mustique.

it's a pity they had to leave us this afternoon to catch their flight back to germany. we'll miss you!

right now we stay at martinique for a few days, then we'll head up north for dominica where we want to spend some time.

our friends took a lot of photos, here's some of them!

cheers, crew

Bequia, Grenadines

Dear readers,

this morning in an early hour we arrived at Admiralty Bay, Bequia.
We had a good and quick passage over from Barbados, lots of rain and thunderstorms though... but they allowed us to make an average of about six knots.
it's the first caribbean island we've visited before and we're awaiting the arrival of our dear segel-ag fellows for the celebration of christmas eve.
unfortunately the digi-cam is broken, so no photos =(
we'll try to fix it for you!
have a nice and cosy christmas everybody but don't go out, you might freeze on the spot.
greets, your crew

Bridgetown, Barbados

More than glad to tell you: yesterday, the 13th of december we arrived at Barbados after 23 days out on sea.The sailing was quite easy for the weather was mainly good.

The first ten days we had rather weak winds from variable directions, sometimes no wind at all and we couldn't make big distances. But after this period (we really asked ourselves if there is such a thing as tradewinds) the passat picked up and except for the last two days we had great conditions and approached barbados very quickly.

We had a good time out on sea though it was really a long time on a small space. But we enjoyed it and ourselves most of the time.

Nd now we're here, finally at our destination and it is perfectly what we wished for and had hoped.

The water is still turquoise, the beaches are still white, palm trees and caribbean spirit still there!

At the moment we're only busy with enjoying, relaxing and recovering from the long time on sea.

Thanks to all of you for all kinds of support,
Yours truly, laszlo and Jan-Vincent
